“After the Veil” is a profound, cohesive artistic statement — a folk-rock concept album that began as a call for political and cultural healing between left and right, but quickly evolved into something far more intimate and psychologically piercing: a deep exploration of Carl Jung’s Shadow work applied to both collective division and personal introspection.
What started as an attempt to bridge ideological chasms revealed a harder truth: the real battle was never primarily between “sides.” It was (and always is) the unintegrated shadow within each of us — the denied rage, fear, righteousness, and hunger for purity that we project onto the “other.” The album traces the painful but necessary journey from projection and blame, through self-recognition, into the possibility of genuine integration.
The Narrative Arc
The album opens in the shadowed interior of the self. “The Enemy Within Us” introduces the central Jungian premise: the part of us that “won’t break, won’t yield,” the iron fist we wrap in silver clothes (or roses). It asks the devastating question that echoes through every subsequent track: If we held all the power tonight, would we become the saints we pretend to be — or the monster we hide beneath the rose?
The Mirror
makes the projection explicit. The enemy we paint and crown with shame stares back wearing our anger, our lack. The glass between self and other is thinner than we admit. Healing cannot begin while we refuse to claim the darkness we see in the mirror.
The Iron Fist
& The Burning
show the inevitable consequence of denied shadow: strength without shadow becomes cruel; order without grace becomes a tomb. We lit the match with words we swore were pure, then watched everything we once loved go up in flames.
Thorns into Crown
offers the alchemical image: pain can open what pride has sealed. The broken light can be healed when we stop pretending.
The Garden We Shared
provides the mythic memory — the lost wholeness before the iron lines were drawn. We once planted roses in the same wounded ground. Now thorns grow wild because we water hatred and call it justice. The roots still run deep beneath our feet; the poison lives in you and me.
The Stranger in the Moon
Here the album fully enters Jungian territory. The quiet little sorceress — the shadow we’ve always tried to hide — rises full and silver. She wears no banner. She lives in both gardens. She is not saint or devil, only what we have denied. The stranger in the moon is you. Is me. The hidden truth that sets the captive free.

The final track is the album’s masterwork — a six-minute summation that weaves every major motif, melody, and emotional beat into one continuous journey. It begins in the shared garden before division, moves through the purity spiral and the burning, pauses in the ashes, then rises through the stranger in the moon into the final, anthemic recognition:

The song structurally enacts the psychological process it describes: it moves from sparse intimacy, through chaotic full-band intensity, into near-silence, then erupts into the largest emotional peak of the entire project. It is both summary and initiation.

The journey begins when we finally see that the enemy we’ve been fighting is not across the divide, but staring back at us from our own reflection.
The Burning Spiral
In the middle, the unclaimed shadow drives both sides into purity spirals and sacred wars that set fire to the garden we once shared.
The Strangers Hand
At the end, the veil lifts and the stranger in the moon offers her hand, revealing that healing begins only when we stop pretending and let the shadow become part of the crown.

The Deeper Revelation
What makes After the Veil remarkable is how honestly it documents its own evolution. It began as a unity project — an attempt to speak across the divide with compassion and shared humanity. But in the writing, the creators discovered what Jung knew: you cannot heal collective division without first facing the shadow in yourself. The political became personal. The “enemy” was revealed to be the unclaimed parts of our own psyche wearing the other side’s face.
The album does not offer easy answers or false unity. It offers something harder and more beautiful: the possibility that love and wholeness are born not from triumph, but from the courage to stand in the divide, thorns still in our hands, and see.
After the veil, we are still broken.
